My top boy combos…

I think I have perfected my top 15 boy combos. Most names are repeated, as I love certain names as first names but also think they make amazing middle names. They are in rough order in how I like them. Please feel free to bash/make suggestions on how to improve them.

Most names are going to either be names I’m very passionate about, or family names…

Malcolm Alexander Clint
Wynn Alasdair Rhys
Alasdair Rhys Julian
August Henry Rhys
Linus Malcolm Reid
Percival Linus Malcolm (Perrin instead of Percival)
Magnus Victor Thomas
Myles August Boaz (Myles cannot be spelled Miles)
Felix Ezra Victor
Hugh Victor Thomas
Hamish Julian Peter (Hamish would have the nn Misha)
Julian Lorenzo Benedict
Darcy James Samuel
Oskar Julian Lorenzo
Elliot Henry James

Thanks for reading!

I’m back bearing pictures!

I know I’ve kind of been missing in action, but for some reason, it was way more fun thinking about names before I actually got pregnant. I’ve needed a name vacation. But I’m back, and think I’m raring to go.

First off, here is our first picture of the baby…our next one will be in a July 28th, when we find out the sex!

Our baby at 9 weeks, 1 day

Our baby at 9 weeks, 1 day

As soon as I told my mom that Fable was a choice for a girl, she ran with it. She at first just fueled the excitement over it, but soon, her love for it started to wear on me. I still really love it, but…it doesn’t feel like the one. But she has her heart set on it. So if it’s a girl, we’ll either go with Fable, or break her heart…any advice?

Lets for now just say Fable isn’t set in stone. Whoo, all of a sudden I feel lighter. Like the pressure of pleasing my mother is off. Right now…believe or not, I feel like Lucy is the one. Crazy?

Here is probably my list:

  • Lucy-loving this, and right now it feels like the one…only problem is that it is Erik’s grandmother’s dog’s name…so everytime we go see Erik’s mother/grandparents(they live together) there would be Lucy the beagle, and Lucy the baby…
  • Beatrix-Erik’s favorite probably. What he originally wanted until I convinced him of Fable. I love it, but it doesn’t quite feel right…
  • Fable-love it, but it doesn’t quite feel right…
  • Rosemary-probably off the actual table, as Erik dislikes it…
  • Nola-This is probably not as a strong as a contender as the others…but Erik really likes it
  • Annora-I love this name, might prefer it in the middle though, but it’s so gorgeous

Then again, maybe I’ll get to avoid all this stress, because I might have  boy…

If that happens, we had tentively set ourselves for my beloved Wynn…but it doesn’t feel right anymore. The only name that really feels right to me is Malcolm. Right now, I’ve fallen into a habit of accidently referring the baby as Malcolm when we’re talking about having a boy. So it just feels like the one.

Our list though, is probably:

  • Malcolm-my top contender right now, Erik loves it too
  • Wynn-our old top contender. I love it to death, Erik does too, but it doesn’t quite connect to this baby right now
  • August-another name we both love
  • Alasdair-a name I love, Erik does too, though he slightly prefers Alastair
  • Perrin-For the nickname Perry. Once a strong contender, now slowly fading
  • Oskar-I really do love this, and Erik does too, doesn’t feel as strong a contender, but I love the Oscar the grouch association. Oh, also my 17 year old, not pregnant sister, has declared her undying love for this name, and it completely set on using for her future son. So maybe I’ll keep this one on ice, at least until her next boyfriend and her newest name obsession!
  • Hugh-love it, but Erik won’t agree to it, it’s his uncle’s name
  • Linus-love it, Erik does too, my mother does too…something in me doesn’t want to count this little gem out completely.
  • Elliot-just love it, a lurker name, never in the tops, but always flittering around. Erik loves it too. Really starting loving it after watching Oprah and learning about this Eliot

So what do you think? Right now if I had a baby this very second, I’d call it Malcolm Alexander Clint McCall and Lucy (either Lucy Valentina Virginia, or maybe as a consolation to my mother…Lucy Fable Virginia?)

Thanks for reading, and for tolerating my long absence. I think I’m out of my name funk, so I should be a more constant blogger!

Some cool names I’ve come across…

Some are of dubious legitimacy, but I thought they were so cool, that I would make a post about them!

Joaquina- I know this is a real name, but I’d never heard of it!

Mythily -very pretty, probably too much for a first name, but so cool!

Poppaea -have no clue, but I love it gives the nickname Poppy!

Sylvélie -I’ve found a scattering a French women named this, I suppose it’s a French version of Sylvia, but I don’t know. I love Sylvia, it’s Erik’s aunt’s name.

Andżelika -pronounced ahn-je-LEE-kah, love the spelling

Alissende

Irina-I prefer this to Irene/Irena, and really starting to like it!

Elleth-kind of like Lilith, without the associations?

I’m having name troubles. I never thought it would be so hard, but now that there is a living thing mooching off me, no name sounds right. Or should I say no girl name sounds right. Literally every name on my short list, every name on my long list, they all just don’t work for me! Any suggestions? Maybe we can play a round of “Name my girl-child!” Hmm…next post, k?

For boy names though, it’s the opposite problem! I love WAY too many stinking names, and all sound really good! My beloved Wynn just isn’t feeling like the right one anymore, strangely I’ve been leaning more towards Malcolm, Mal just feels right with me.

Anyway, here is my shortened list for a boy, I’m fairly sure if my little bean is a boy, that his name will be somewhere on this list! Oh our last name is McCall, and for a boy, the middle names are completely set as Alexander Clint. (For sanity’s sake, Erik will be playing the part of DH)

Malcolm -I’m just crushing on this big time, adore Mal as a nickname, dh likes as well, maybe not great with our last name…

Alasdair -love the nickname Dair, dh is so-so, wouldn’t work with our middle name choices though

Hugh -I really dislike Hugo, but love Hugh! Unfortunately, this is the name of DH’s uncle, and DH isn’t wanting to use it!

Wynn -this is a big family name for me, and has huge sentimental value. Dh loves this one the best.

Perrin -I adore Perry, and right now this is my fav. Perry name. I also really love Percival, nn Perry. dh loves Perry too

Linus -name crush, dh likes, but doesn’t love

Bruno -name crush, dh doesn’t like it, and doesn’t sound good with our last name, but I ADORE it right now!

James -I adore Jamie, dh isn’t sure about this one, he knew someone named James he didn’t like. It’s also my older step-brother’s name that I don’t ever see.

Oskar -only like this spelling, dislike Oscar. huge name crush, dh likes, but doesn’t love

Elliot -name crush, dh likes a lot

Laurence -family name for me, my step-father’s name (he goes by Larry), love Laurie, dh is so-so on it

Victor -my step-father’s middle name (Larry Victor), dh loves this

Daren -sort of a family name, only this spelling. dh doesn’t care for it

Darcy -huge name crush, I love Pride and Prejudice. dh isn’t crazy about it

Hamish -love this, and love nn Mischa. dh isn’t crazy about it

Ezra -i really like this, but DH loves it

Samuel -dh isn’t super crazy about it, but I adore Sammy (He said he doesn’t like it, because when he was young, he named his, ahem, boy part, Samuel…What?! I’ve never heard a more silly reason to turn down a name! He’s throwing out Tiffany Angel for a girl, I’ll go tell him I named my hoo-hoo that so he’ll lay off the stripper names!)

Myles -only this spelling, I love this, dh prefers Mylo, honoring name, maybe not the greatest with our last name

Rhys -only this spelling, dh doesn’t care for it

August -love this specifically for the nickname Gus. dh loves, but prefers Augustus

Cooper -I adore this name, I know I shouldn’t but it makes me all warm and fuzzy. I know all the arguments of why it’s bad, I STILL love it! Maybe not the best with our last name

Logan -I’m so-so on this, dh loves it, name of Wolverine

Magnus -I like this, dh loves this, I adore the nickname Maggie for a little boy. Maybe not the best with our last name.

Cosmo -I’m so-so on this, dh loves it. maybe not the greatest with our last name

Soren-dh loves this, I really like it

Reid -we both really like this, dh loves that Reid is the name of Mr. Fantastic on Fantastic Four

Jasper -I love this, dh doesn’t, and he has a close family friend with a grandson named Jasper. I adore Jap as a nickname

Charlie -sigh, I don’t like Charles nearly as much as just Charlie. I know in the end I would use Charles probably, but I would only call him Charlie, never Charles. dh’s grandfather’s name, but dh didn’t really care for him.

♥Been gone, but…

Got great news!!!♥♥♥

postive

Yay!♥

In honor of the positive, I’ll go through my favorites I’ve been working on.

For a boy, it’s between Wynn(of course), an August name (for Gus), a Perry name (Percival and Perrin are in the lead), and Malcolm. Maybe Søren or Cosmo. We also like Alasdair, Darcy, Oskar, Elliot, and Linus. Most likely a boy will be named Wynn Alexander Clint. (It’s like 75% likely).

A girl however we have two combos we really love, and couldn’t choose between. We’ll just have to wait and see what she would look like I guess. They are Beatrix Annora Maud and Fable Cornelia Bluebird. Though the Fable combo could change. Here is my poll on Fable combos:  http://www.babynames.com/namelist/9383878

Other girl names we like are: Rosemary (I love, he doesn’t), Petronel, Pomeline, Pandora, Pippa, Esmée, Nola, and Cecily (I like, he doesn’t), and Domino.

Some random combos I made while playing with names:

Rosemary Helen Valentine
Petronel Elva Primrose
Pippa Virginia Jean
Domino Luella Elspeth
Pandora Helen November
Cecily Elora Jane
Pomeline Iris Roux
Esmée Mathilda Ruby

Well I’ll go talk to everyone later! ♥

Ok, my combos…

Ok, I’ve been working real hard on getting my combos together, here are my rough draft…can you give me opinions on them?

Girls:

Beatrix Annora Inez

Rosemary Helen Virginia (Virginia for Erik’s mom)

Petronel Esmé Delfina (Delfina for my grandmother, Petronel kind of for me. My name ends in -nel too)

Pandora  Elizabeth Jean (Elizabeth for Erik’s great-grandmother, Jean for Erik’s grandmother)

and the wildcard one I know that no one likes: (but that’s ok :P )

Domino Valentina Maud (Valentina for my mom)

Boys:

Wynn Alexander Clint (Alexander for Erik, his father, his father, etc., and Clint for my older brother who passed away)

Percival Malcolm Linus

August  Victor Thomas (Victor for my father, Thomas for my father who passed away)

Cosmo Terry Eugene (Terry for Erik’s father, Eugene for Erik’s and Mine grandfather)

Thanks everyone!

Trying to nail down a top three…

It’s hard to do, if I have to let Erik have a say!

Here are some preliminary ideas:

Beatrix Tara Rosemary, Petronel Leona Jean, Domino Valentine Elizabeth

Beatrix Elizabeth Jean, Petronel Leona Valentine, and Rosemary Tara Domino

Erik wants Domino as a first, I want Rosemary…middle names are family names. Valentine/Valentina for my mother, Leona for my grandmother, Elizabeth and Jean for my grandmother-in-law. Other honoring names I could use, Virginia for my mother-in-law, Catharine for my favorite aunt, Anne for my grandmother Leona, Delfina for my other grandmother, Elva for the same grandmother-in-law that Elizabeth and Jean honor (Yeah she’s that cool), and Abigail/Gail for another grandmother of mine named Gail. (Also Erik said he loves Nola now…it means New Orleans Louisiana, his beloved hometown)

Also here are some random combos I got him to say weren’t terrible, anything stand out to you? Any flipping or switching? (some of these are guilty pleasure names…)

Mary Inez
Tullia Anne
Opal Delfina
Ottilie Esmé
Wilhelmina November
Sunny Louisa
Sunny Marigold
Adah Rosalie
Inez Edmé (Any better mn suggestions for Inez (EYE-nez)?
Frances Daffodil
Susannah Marigold
Willa Esmé
Bonnie Susannah
Maud Eliza
Beatrix Nola
Henrietta Ruby

And for giggles, here are some random boy combos I made, though our boy names are pretty set in stone…(Our top three are probably Wynn Alexander Clint, Cosmo Eugene Thomas, and Augustin/Percival Victor Malcolm.) Alexander is for Erik and his father, grandfather, etc. Clint is for my deceased brother, Eugene is my grandfather’s and Erik’s grandfather’s middle name, Thomas and Victor is for my deceased father.

These combos are not nearly as exciting to me as the girl ones…maybe because I used a couple guilty pleasures for those!

Malcolm Ivan
Percival Linus
Thomas Augustin
Oskar Darcy
Oliver Ezra
William Nigel
Simon Laurence
Augustin Richard
Ivan Edmund
Blair Richard
Felix Darcy
Darcy Edward
Simon Magnus
Wynn Edward
Blair Simon
Magnus Elliot
Blair Nigel
Barney Thomas
Hamish Ragnar

So what do you think? Any great/horrible ones? Thanks for stopping by!

Some boy combos I’ve been tossing around…

Here are some boy names I’ve been tossing around, nothing serious just combos I thought sounded nice…what do you think? Would you change them somehow else? I’ve thought about changing Thomas to either Tam or Tavish, and if Perry was a first name, it would be Percival…

Darcy Edward Thomas

Jasper Alexander Clint

Wynn Gabriel Linus

Cosmo Malcolm Perry

Magnus Richard Charles

Augustin Alasdair Bruce

Wynn…

Lately I feel like I’ve been having to stick up for my Wynn all the time. People who have no right to say anything (people who named their daughter Nevaeh Angel Destiny, icK!) are telling me what a horrible name it is…They said Wynn sounds like an old Chinese man’s name (ooookkkkk), and Beatrix just got a horrified face and a throw up sound. *roll eyes* I guess not everyone can name their baby Nevaeh Angel Destiny…

And all this fuss, actually makes me love it more. I’d say I rediscovered my love for it. Wynn. It makes me happy to say, I love how it looks. Everything about it, it just makes me sing.

I started liking this name when I was very young. Has anyone watched the Hallmark TV movie, “Love Comes Softly”? It was based on the book written by Janette Oke. I love her writing. I have every book she’s ever wrote. I devoured them. Well, besides the “Love Comes Softly” series, my other favorite series by her was her Canadian West series. The Canadian West series is quite like the Little House on the Prairie series, except set in the Canadian west. This series (When Calls the Heart, When Comes the Spring, When Breaks the Dawn, When Hope Springs New, Beyond the Gathering Storm, and When Tomorrow Comes) is about a woman named Elizabeth and her husband, a royal Canadian Mountie, named Wynn Delaney. He is a strong officer who is kind and fair and strong and caring. A model citizen, handsome, a devout Christian, and a loving husband. He’s like the perfect man. He is just the kind of man I want my son to grow to be!

Also, Wynn is the surname of the Stephen Alan Wynn. He is an American casino resort developer who is credited with spearheading the dramatic resurgence and expansion of the Las Vegas, Nevada, Strip in the 1990s. His companies refurbished or built some of the most currently widely recognized resorts in Las Vegas such as the Golden Nugget, The Mirage, Treasure Island, Bellagio, Wynn, and Encore. As of 2008, Wynn is the 277th richest man in the world with a wealth of $3.9 billion. The Wynn hotel sets this story: In 2004, Chanara and Erik were working the summer at the Wynn hotel, fell in love, had their first date there, had their first dance there (to Blackbird by the Beatles), and have been together ever since. We go back to the Wynn every year. It’s the most beautiful place ever, and I love it to bits. We someday hope to be married at the Wynn, and I hope to walk down the aisle to Blackbird. Wynn means a lot to us, it means love. Erik loves that it sounds like the word “win” and that if our son ever became a famous football player, he could shout “Win, Wynn!” He’s a nut, but I love him. Also, my father’s great-grandfather’s name was Arthur Wynn, after his father Wynn Charles.

Wynn is Welsh, and the meaning of it is either “friend” or “fair”, it also derived from Welsh gwyn meaning “blessed, white” He would most likely be paired with Alexander Clint. Alexander is Erik’s middle name, and also his fathers, and his great-grandfathers, and a thousand men back in the lineage’s middle name. Sort of a tradition. Clint is the name of my older brother, who was murdered  in 2005. So Wynn Alexander would mean “Fair defender of men”. Nice. If it wasn’t Wynn Alexander, it would probably be Wynn Alasdair Thomas (or just Tam), Wynn Alasdair Cosmo, or I don’t know. Something strong to balance out the delicateness of Wynn. Any suggestions on combos (looking at my favorite names)?

I would love to have a Wynn. I’m completely all about the feminine sounding names on boys, and I love that it feels a bit more feminine than other boy names whose manliness slams you over your head. I think a true man is sensitive and sweet, and Wynn embodies that for me. I even think it sounds quite strong. After all it sounds like the word “Win” how macho is that, the drive to want to win and be the best? Seems quite manly to me.  I could see myself with a Wynn, see myself introducing him. I love how it looks in type, in cursive, on birth announcements, calling him my little Wynnie the pooh, I mean, if people aren’t in love with this name, they must be crazy!

Thanks as always  for putting up with me!

My favorite boy names…

Boy’s names I find hard to decide because I have so many favorites.

I suppose if I had to choose my favorites, my list would be:

  • Darcy
  • Jasper
  • Wynn
  • Augustin (though August might win over Augustin)
  • Cosmo
  • Malcolm
  • Oscar
  • Alfred
  • Simon
  • Magnus
  • Richard
  • Perry
  • Hamish
  • Barney
  • Linus

Erik’s list would probably look like this:

  • Wynn
  • August
  • Cosmo
  • Malcolm
  • Oscar
  • Magnus
  • Perry
  • Gabriel
  • Elliot
  • Ezra
  • Liam
  • Bruce
  • Basil
  • Dorian
  • Drake

If I was naming a boy myself, I probably would have to choose between Darcy, Jasper, or Simon, or maybe Richard…or Wynn.  He doesn’t like Darcy, though I LOVE it! So as much as I love it, it’s probably out.

I’ll talk more about why I love these boy names later! Which ones of these do you like?
