My first choice right now if I’m having a girl is Rosemary. Unfortunately, Erik has yet to get over his Rose hangup, so my second choice is Beatrix. I adore Beatrix. I really like Beatrice too, but Beatrix just leaves me so happy to say. I’m trying to nail down my favorite Beatrix combo, but that’s so hard to do! I don’t know if a name with no honoring is the best way to go, or with one honoring name, or with all honoring!
My most perfect Beatrix combo is Beatrix Annora Maud. For some reason, one day all three names just kind of fell into place, and just clicked. I think it’s perfect, and I wouldn’t change anything about it. The problem, is that it doesn’t really honor anyone. Yes, the Ann in Annora honors my grandmother Leona Anne, but it’s not enough honoring for me, we weren’t very close. (She passed away when I was 7, and had extremely advanced stages of Alzheimers from the time I was 4 on) and the Maud in a way honors my father, who wanted to name me Matilda, but got I really just love all three names, and they all complement each other fantastically.
The other combos I love just because of how they speak to me are:
- Beatrix Marina Violet
- Beatrix Helen Ophélie
- Beatrix Lily Scarlet (not extremely happy with Scarlet in this combo, but can’t find the perfect complement to Beatrix Lily…any help?)
The semi-honoring combos I have are: (Virginia is a very important honoring name)
- Beatrix Mary Virginia-I just really love Mary, and it feels so classy and pure in this combo
- Beatrix Lucy Virginia-I really love Lucy, but not sure if it’s completely usuable for me. I also really like Beatrix Lucélie Virginia.
- Beatrix Fable Virginia-this would make my mom the happiest
- Beatrix Rosemary Jean-I think Jean is honoring Erik’s grandmother since it’s her middle name, and I adore Rosemary…almost would feel bad making Rosemary a middle though (just in case Erik got over his hangup and allowed Rosemary for a future daughter)
The all-honoring combo I have is Beatrix Helen Virginia, my original.

I know I’ve kind of been missing in action, but for some reason, it was way more fun thinking about names before I actually got pregnant. I’ve needed a name vacation. But I’m back, and think I’m raring to go.
First off, here is our first picture of the baby…our next one will be in a July 28th, when we find out the sex!
Our baby at 9 weeks, 1 day
As soon as I told my mom that Fable was a choice for a girl, she ran with it. She at first just fueled the excitement over it, but soon, her love for it started to wear on me. I still really love it, but…it doesn’t feel like the one. But she has her heart set on it. So if it’s a girl, we’ll either go with Fable, or break her heart…any advice?
Lets for now just say Fable isn’t set in stone. Whoo, all of a sudden I feel lighter. Like the pressure of pleasing my mother is off. Right now…believe or not, I feel like Lucy is the one. Crazy?
Here is probably my list:
- Lucy-loving this, and right now it feels like the one…only problem is that it is Erik’s grandmother’s dog’s name…so everytime we go see Erik’s mother/grandparents(they live together) there would be Lucy the beagle, and Lucy the baby…
- Beatrix-Erik’s favorite probably. What he originally wanted until I convinced him of Fable. I love it, but it doesn’t quite feel right…
- Fable-love it, but it doesn’t quite feel right…
- Rosemary-probably off the actual table, as Erik dislikes it…
- Nola-This is probably not as a strong as a contender as the others…but Erik really likes it
- Annora-I love this name, might prefer it in the middle though, but it’s so gorgeous
Then again, maybe I’ll get to avoid all this stress, because I might have boy…
If that happens, we had tentively set ourselves for my beloved Wynn…but it doesn’t feel right anymore. The only name that really feels right to me is Malcolm. Right now, I’ve fallen into a habit of accidently referring the baby as Malcolm when we’re talking about having a boy. So it just feels like the one.
Our list though, is probably:
- Malcolm-my top contender right now, Erik loves it too
- Wynn-our old top contender. I love it to death, Erik does too, but it doesn’t quite connect to this baby right now
- August-another name we both love
- Alasdair-a name I love, Erik does too, though he slightly prefers Alastair
- Perrin-For the nickname Perry. Once a strong contender, now slowly fading
- Oskar-I really do love this, and Erik does too, doesn’t feel as strong a contender, but I love the Oscar the grouch association. Oh, also my 17 year old, not pregnant sister, has declared her undying love for this name, and it completely set on using for her future son. So maybe I’ll keep this one on ice, at least until her next boyfriend and her newest name obsession!
- Hugh-love it, but Erik won’t agree to it, it’s his uncle’s name
- Linus-love it, Erik does too, my mother does too…something in me doesn’t want to count this little gem out completely.
- Elliot-just love it, a lurker name, never in the tops, but always flittering around. Erik loves it too. Really starting loving it after watching Oprah and learning about this Eliot…
So what do you think? Right now if I had a baby this very second, I’d call it Malcolm Alexander Clint McCall and Lucy (either Lucy Valentina Virginia, or maybe as a consolation to my mother…Lucy Fable Virginia?)

In honor of the positive, I’ll go through my favorites I’ve been working on.
For a boy, it’s between Wynn(of course), an August name (for Gus), a Perry name (Percival and Perrin are in the lead), and Malcolm. Maybe Søren or Cosmo. We also like Alasdair, Darcy, Oskar, Elliot, and Linus. Most likely a boy will be named Wynn Alexander Clint. (It’s like 75% likely).
A girl however we have two combos we really love, and couldn’t choose between. We’ll just have to wait and see what she would look like I guess. They are Beatrix Annora Maud and Fable Cornelia Bluebird. Though the Fable combo could change. Here is my poll on Fable combos: http://www.babynames.com/namelist/9383878

I have three top girl names…I think. They are Beatrix, Rosemary, and Henrietta. Though Clementina, Josephine, and Esmé are close to the top.
I have loved Henrietta the longest of the three, I remember when I was four getting two baby dolls that I named Henrietta and Susannah. In my eyes, they were just perfection…and they still are!
Henrietta makes me feel happy when I say it. It has the innocence of Pollyanna, with the daintiness of a little girl in a pinafore.When I daydream of the name, I imagine warm sunshine surrounded by lilacs. Slightly old-fashioned, quaint, and familiar. I imagine a little Henrietta with blond curls tied up in a big pink bow and little mary-janes. I adore it’s nicknames, especially Henny, Hetty, Hattie, and Etta. I prefer Henrietta over Henry on a boy. I don’t have any firm combos for this, at one point I had Henrietta Cordelia Esmé, now I think I’m set on Henrietta Lilac Adèle.
Rosemary is name that has evolved over many years for me. Rose replaced Camryn as my top favorite name at around age 20-21, when I realized I was OUT of my mind for liking any of the names I liked at the time. I fell in love with Rose, like hardcore-I want-to-marry-it kind of love. I only liked Rose though. I felt it was complete enough and just perfect. I wanted to like Rosemary, but was still newly raw from throwing away my tryndee crap names, that I wasn’t ready to embrace the oldies. Then one day, I realized I really liked Rosemary, and just over many years Rose slowly evolved to Rosemary as my favorite. I still love Rose, but something about Rosemary just feels right. This name is one I really feel like I would use. This name reminds me of a Victorian woman in a lacy antique gown-just all my favorite parts of antiquity. Simply breathtaking. I had Rosemary Helen Anne as a combo. Anne is my grandmother’s middle name. I adore Rosemary with the nickname Rosy, and something I find extremely appealing and adorable to call a daughter named Rosemary Helen, Rosy-Posy. Just perfect.
Beatrix is my newest love. It hit me from no where. I’ve heard this name a million times, but just once I really heard it, and realized how amazing it was. It might have surpassed all the other names to my number one spot. It’s the one I dream about, the one I’m just so infatuated with it. It’s got this spunky vibe that the other two don’t have, and at the same time seems even more old-fashioned and antiqued than Henrietta and Rosemary. It reminds me of little bunny rabbits in little blue coats stomping through Mr. ‘ garden. It just makes me swoon. The plus, this is the only of the three that Erik likes as well. I also absolutely adore Trixie. I would use Trixie more than just occasionally. I’m still working on a complete combo, but was thinking Beatrix Valentina/Virginia/Leona/Delfina or Beatrix Leona Joy/Jean. Valentina is in honor of my mom Val, Virginia is Erik’s mother’s name, Leona was my grandmother’s first name, Delfina was my other grandmother, and Jean is after Erik’s grandmother Elva Jean.

My girls list is a lot shorter, and not all I don’t think I’d actually use, like Mathilda, it’s very popular right now, though I love it, and I adore Tilly. Same with Felix, Harvey, Caroline, and maybe Elizabeth. I know Elizabeth is extremely popular, but I just love it so much, I might be willing to overlook it!
