Discussing names with dh last name, he mentioned that I used be GA-GA over Olive, and right when I started getting tired of it, he decided he really liked it! I don’t know if it will make our list, but it’s still on our long list. We both love the nicknames Liv and Ollie. My only worry is that with Rosemary, it might be a little too foody.

I don’t mind the associations with Olive Oyl or Olives, though I know they bug a lot of people. The first time I’d heard this name was when Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher used it for their adorable little one. Also in ”Little Miss Sunshine”, the main character Olive is played by a young Abigail Breslin. Other associations I have with Olive-the main character in Easy A (one of my favorite movies lol), and the beautiful Olive trees.

Bonnie is a name that I often overlook, but everytime it catches my eye, I think how perfect it is. I adore sweet Bonnie. It’s unusual, old-fashioned, and sweet. I love that it can be nicknamed Bon-Bon…and Bunny lol. I think Rosy and Bonnie sound adorable together too. Dh also likes it. He prefers the spelling of the word more-Bonny. I like both spellings.

Bonnie Means “pretty” from the Scottish word bonnie, which was itself derived from Middle French bon ”good”. Who wouldn’t like that? I like that it has that connection to Rosy’s middle name “Belle”. It has been in use as an American given name since the 19th century, and it became especially popular after the movie ‘Gone with the Wind’ (1939), in which it was the nickname of Scarlett’s daughter.

Some other famous Bonnies are: Bonnie Parker, the female half of the famous robbers Bonnie and Clyde, actresses Bonnie Hunt and Bonnie Wright (played Ginny Weasley in Harry Potter), singer Bonnie Raitt, Bonnie from Toy Story 3, and the Bonnie from the Scottish song “My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean”.

Combos for Bonnie are hard, because it’s difficult to find something that fits well. Here is what I have so far. I’m kind of stuck giving Bonnie a French middle name.

Though I think Alice fits better with Rosemary, I have to say I love Lucy more. Everything about the name gives me tingles. I had considered it for Rosy but decided the fact that there was a dog in the extended family named Lucy was enough of a turn-off. Well I’m pretty sure I’m over that now!I’ve tossed around using Lucille, because I think it matches Rosemary better, and I like longer names with a cute nickname, but I prefer just Lucy more. Other name I like to get Lucy as a nickname: Lucia, Lucina, Lucinda, Lucretia, Lucienne, and Lucilia. The only one I really like, as much as Lucy is Lucilia. I like that it is a cross between Lucy and another favorite, Cecilia. If I used Lucilia, I’d use Lucie as a nickname I think.

My main influences of Lucy are Lucille Ball, Lucy from Chronicles of Narnia, The Beatles “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”, the character Lucy from the movie “I Am Sam” (named after the Beatle’s song, played by tiny Dakota Fanning) suffragist Lucy Stone, ’Anne of Green Gables’ author Lucy Maud Montgomery, and Lucy Camden from television’s 7th Heaven. All of which are great associations for me.

I don’t have a favorite combo for Lucy, though I have a couple that I really love. If I’m following the same name pattern I set with Alice (first middle name is French, second middle name is a flower) then my combo right now is Lucy Emmeline Daisy.

I also really love Lucy Jane.

Alice is vying for my top favorite girl name. I love many other girl names, but Alice always seems to be in the top. I think Alice and Rosemary go together beautifully, and I adore the nickname Ali/Allie. I don’t care too much for the other names that lead to Ali/Allie. I dislike Alexandra/Alexandria. I do like Alexa, Alessa, Allegra…but I love Alice.

Alice is a family name for me. My (need to verify and come back and edit) great-something-grandmother was Alice. Can’t remember her middle name off the bat, but the genealogy papers are at my mother’s, and I’m going there tomorrow.

Alice was covered by my favorite name blogger-Appellation Mountain on January 8, 2009.

The biggest association with Alice is probably Alice in Wonderland. I always enjoyed the Disney movie as a child, mainly because my mom always said I looked like the girl. I had the same long blond hair and blue eyes, I also loved her pretty blue dress and white pinafore.

My next association is my favorite Alice is the name of the main character on my favorite movie series Resident Evil. She is played by my favorite actress/model, Milla Jovovich,

Not so g00d associations- a maid and a waitress. I was an avid lover of the Brady Bunch (re-runs lol I’m not old enough to have watched them new!), and Alice the maid remains my biggest hesitation on completely loving this name. My mother also was a fan of the television show Alice and every time I mention Alice, she does a bad impersonation of the famous “Kiss Mah Grits” catchphrase one of the Alice characters made famous.

Other people/associations of Alice: Queen Victoria’s third daughter Alice Maud Mary (Love Alice Maud, but way too sitcom-y for me!). Alice from Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight Series (I’m not a huge fan of Twlight, but I like it well enough, the character of Alice being my favorite. She was short, spunky, and fun). Tina Fey has a daughter named Alice Zenobia, probably my first time hearing this as a fresh new baby’s name. I adore this combo!

Alice is related to many other names, but I still like the simple Alice best. Alison, which is the more popular of the Alice family, is a diminutive of Alice, but I’ve never liked it. Others I like, but not as much as just Alice- Alicia, Alyssa, Alys, and Adelheid. The only one I don’t like in the family is Adelaide, I can’t get over the fact that it has the word LAID in it

On to combos

I have Alice Caroline Lily as my combo du jour. I’m kind of aiming to give my daughters all French middle names like Rosy. Sort of tie them together, and it would tickle E so much. And i like the idea of putting a flower name in all my girl names. I like Lily, though it’s not my favorite flower. I’ve also considered Alice Caroline Lilac, or maybe switching Caroline to Cordelia. Alice Cordelia is all sorts of pretty, but then the middle name wouldn’t be French.

I doubt anyone is still reading this, but if you are, you might have noticed that I wiped it clean. I got tired of looking at all my old posts. I am going to try to do one name at a time, and really discuss it, instead of just rambling on and listing a million combos. I think I’ll start with my top favorite names.
